As Marketing Director Simon shaped the turnaround at Energis, a bankrupt business when he and the team arrived. Simon drove fast, dramatic change across the customer experience, culture and external marketing, and was intimately involved with the successful exit for the shareholders netting them $750m.

Before that he had a corporate career in Marketing that saw him end up as a FTSE100 Marketing Director at Cable & Wireless, he’s still not really sure how that happened! Along the way he introduced market shifting new services at BT (including their first ever shop on the internet), launched a new joint venture with AT&T, then closed it down and formed a regulator challenging partnership with Sky. He’s been around! And he lived in the USA for a while there too, before heading back to Europe to “teach” Partners in Accenture how to sell outsourcing and working across Europe with clients such as Microsoft, Iberdrolar and Nokia.

We first met Simon just as he was selling his human insight consulting business Chemistry. Following his successful corporate career, he’d grown Chemistry from a start-up in a field in England to standing toe to toe with established leaders in data analytics, behavioural science and business consulting working across the world with clients such as Vodafone, Experian and Diageo.

Described by his last Chairman as someone who ‘gets things done by being both the most practical and the smartest guy in the room’, he has a passion for commercial outcomes and is currently exploring a mild obsession with human behaviour – he’s just completing an MSc in Behavioural Science at Henley Business School.

He’s never more energised than when playing football on a Friday night and describes his greatest burden in life as his love for Derby County (apparently they won the leagues in 1972 and 1975 – who knew). His humour will most definitely make you laugh, but he saves his widest smiles for his wife Carol, daughter Laura and son Jonathan.
