Chris started his working life early, aged 13 working in his father’s grocery business based in Penrith on the edge of the Lake District. He quickly learnt that the phrase “The customer is King” was not merely a simple motto but the fundamental basis on which a relatively small independent store was able to thrive in a highly competitive market.
As beautiful as The Lakes are Chris was soon keen to sample the delights of a more metropolitan environment so he headed South to Nottingham where he studied for his degree in Business Studies. As part of his course Chris spent time working for British Nuclear Fuels based in Sellafield and a very “interesting” summer season at Butlins Holiday Centre in Ayr!
After his degree Chris started working for CCN, a small credit reference and marketing company. The business enjoyed exceptional levels of growth both organically and via acquisition. With this growth came rapid change and opportunity for those people who were prepared to work hard, take bold decisions and happy to travel pretty much anywhere in the World. In 1996 CCN was rebranded as Experian and following another period of significant growth the business was IPO’d on the LSE in 2006.
After 22 successful and enjoyable years it was time for Chris to take up a new challenge and so he joined Callcredit based in Leeds. His initial role was to help the business complete a MBO from Skipton Building Society supported by private equity. He later assumed responsibility for one of the operating Divisions and guided it through the turbulent years post the financial crash which ultimately lead to a second round of PE investment in 2014.
During his corporate career Chris has worked with many consultancies both big and small however he found Positive Momentum to be different and that’s why once he discovered them in 2005 they became his “go-to” firm whenever he needed no nonsense external advice on which he could confidently rely.
The chance to work with Matt and the rest of the team to guide the business through the next phase of development was just too good to resist. Working with like minded people who are experienced practitioners with an unerring ability to quickly get to the heart of business issues is incredibly stimulating and satisfying.
