About Gav

Gav is a marketing, customer and innovation expert. He is obsessed by brands, customer insight & customer-centricity. And he firmly believes that turning customers into fans can supercharge commerce. He has been lucky enough to have had an exceptional career in marketing around the globeHe has been the Chief Marketing Officer for Paddy Power, Yopa and Boden. He ran the brand strategy of O2 for 7 years. And he is also the founder of giffgaff. 

Gav was a member of my senior leadership team at O2 for 7 years. During that time he showed himself to be a highly creative thinker, a passionate brand strategist and a bold customer champion. His recognition of emerging customer trends and translation into actionable customer insights helped him to shape our vision as a brand and a business. Gav was instrumental in embedding, throughout the company, the belief that loving our customers and turning them into fans would deliver sustainable competitive advantage. Perhaps his greatest impact was his insight and idea for giffgaff, which has grown to be a very valuable part of the O2 portfolio.

Gav has also worked in some of the leading agencies in the world – Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, BBDO New York, TBWALondon & Publicis Mojo Australia. He also ran his own advertising agency in London for 3 years, winning clients such as Mercedes-Benz, The Macallan & Invesco Perpetual. Globally, he has helped with the marketing on some of the world’s best consumer brands – Boden, Paddy Power, Yopa, Guinness, PlayStation, O2, giffgaff, Absolut, 3, Volvo, Walkers, Pepsi, FedEx, Intel, New Balance,, Strongbow, Red Stripe, Toyota, P&G, Nestle, Coca-Cola, Bacardi, Christian Aid, Invesco Perpetual, NFU Mutual, The Macallan, Highland Park, Bombay Sapphire, Streetcar plus many more. 

Gav has worked across all elements of the marketing, customer-centricity & innovation worlds, with particular expertise in optimisation, transformation and capability. He ran the Customer NPD & Innovation function at O2 and Telefonica globally for 3 years. His real ambition is to turn the complex into the simple, help his clients look through the world through the eyes of the customer and help them build something that customers can fall in love with and tell their friends about. In summary, he loves helping businesses turn their customers into fans. 

Outside of work, Gav is a dad to 3 wonderful kids and a husband to a very patient wife. He enjoys fiddling around with cars and watches and is so enthusiastic at karaoke, he once broke his ankle while doing it.
