Transformation

A favourite word amongst many contemporary corporate companies just now is 'transformation'.

Generally a brilliant way of giving the appearance of revolutionary activity without actually going to all the time and hassle of really changing anything at all!

The usual MO seems to be – allocate responsibility to an already over-worked (but keen to please) executive, who will then build a virtual team of equally ambitious professionals (who are already taking 60 hours per week to do their demanding day job), and ask them to come up with an ‘action plan’ for revolutionising the businesses/functions fortunes in ways no human being has ever conceived of before! This 'action plan' will be extensively reviewed/diluted by an extensive list of 'stakeholders' most of whom will work hard to ensure little ever happens.

Little wonder that true transformation is as rare as rocking horse droppings...
